Low Fuel Warning

No Rush — Urgency 2/5
Can I still drive? — With caution

You can drive to the nearest petrol station, but go there directly. Running out of fuel on a busy road is dangerous. If you are on a motorway, take the next exit with a station rather than trying to reach a cheaper one further away. This is general information only.

This is general guidance. Your situation may differ — when in doubt, don’t drive.

What does this mean?

Your fuel tank is getting low. Most cars turn this light on when you have about 50 to 80 kilometres (30 to 50 miles) of driving left, but this varies by car and driving style. Running completely empty can damage your fuel pump and leave you stranded.

What should I do right now?

Head to the nearest petrol station and fill up. Do not panic — you usually have a decent amount of driving left when the light first comes on. But do not push it too far, especially on motorways where stations can be far apart.
