Electronic Stability Control
No Rush — Urgency 2/5Safe to drive. If the light is flickering, reduce your speed and drive carefully — the road surface is not great. If the system is off or faulty, be extra careful on corners and wet roads. This is general information only.
This is general guidance. Your situation may differ — when in doubt, don’t drive.
What does this mean?
When this light flickers, your electronic stability control system is actively helping you. It detects when your car starts to skid or slide and applies individual brakes to help you stay in control. If the light stays on constantly, the system may be off or have a fault.
What should I do right now?
If flickering, the system is working as designed — slow down a little because conditions are slippery. If the light stays on, check whether you pressed the ESC off button by mistake. If you did not, mention it at your next service or book a check if you often drive in tricky conditions.
